Disability Awareness Training (DAT) CDROM

DAT CD Cover

DAT CDROM Overview

The North American population as a whole is aging and the incidence of persons with disabilities is rising.

Your organization's employees need to be trained to provide the best service to all clients.

The proper training will enable your staff to effectively and respectfully serve persons with disabilities. After all, customer service is one of the primary reasons why customers switch service providers.

To assist you with this task, Easter Seals New Brunswick has developed the Disability Awareness Training (DAT) CD-ROM.

To increase disability awareness for your company's representatives dealing with the public.

To increase disability awareness within your human resources personnel.

Properly trained management staff are better equipped to effectively interview and interact with persons with disabilities, thus preventing an embarrassing slip-up or comment from offending a top prospect employee or potential business partner.

Origin of DAT program

The DAT program is based on information seminars presented by Easter Seal and March of Dimes organizations in various North American communities. The training seminars usually happened in a limited number of communities and required several participants. Now, the multimedia CD-ROM version of the DAT program offers an employer greater flexibility. The DAT CD-ROM provides a uniform training program which is accessible to all individuals within an organization.

How the Program Works

The program is computer-based training, an increasingly popular method of employee training. An employee trains at a personal computer and follows the instructions of the program, reading the information as it appears on the screen or having the computer read the information to them. Information is presented in an interesting multimedia format which includes disability simulations, video clips, and sound. The program covers Vision, Hearing, Mobility, and Speech disability awareness. Each section takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes to complete.

Program Features

Sections can be completed separately or all at once, allowing for a flexible training schedule.

Video clips, simulations, tips, and facts make the learning engaging and memorable for the user.

Knowledge gained by the user is tested by multiple choice quizzes.

Most screens have an audio choice button prompting the computer to read the information presented on the screen.

Our hope is that you will see the great benefit this training tool can provide your organization and that you will consider implementing this training as part of your employee orientation program. This will give your organization a cutting edge advantage in providing services to, and hiring, persons with disabilities.

Profits generated through the sales of the DAT software supports Easter Seals New Brunswick. This non-profit organization is the principal New Brunswick agency working in partnership with people with disabilities so that they may attain independence and equality of opportunity generally available in the community.
