Easter Seals Martial Arts Classic
Martial Arts caring for their community:
The Martial Arts community came together for the 4th Annual Easter Seals Martial Arts Tournament which was held Saturday May 7th 2011, at Bliss Carman Middle school, Fredericton. This year was another great success with 9 Martial Arts schools from across the province taking part in this unique fundraiser. Easter Seals New Brunswick uses the funds raised to provide services for children and adults with disabilities across New Brunswick, from recycling adaptive equipment (wheelchairs, walkers, etc) and providing assistive technology in schools to recreational programs and Camp Rotary. "We have been very fortunate to have wonderful supporters like Randy Tracey and Geoff MacDonald who were joined this year by Robin Geneau and Kris McGrath" said Julia Latham Executive Director of ESNB. "These are the sort of individuals that every community wants and needs." Master Randy Tracey of Tracy's Martial Arts, Master Geoff MacDonald of Kobukan Martial Arts, Master Robin Geneau Upper Mirimichi Tae Kwon Do and Master Kris McGrath from Joe Fournier's Martial arts worked tirelessly to help organize this fantastic and worthwhile event. Other schools competing from the Martial Arts community in the province were New Brunswick Karate of Okinawa, North West Shaolin Kung Fu Academy, Evolution Fight and Fitness, Jukaijutsu and East Coast Martial Arts.
The martial arts philosophy: discipline, healthy competition, healthy lifestyles and the opportunities for personal growth provide the basis for this event. New Brunswick children and adults involved in martial arts have the opportunity to join in a friendship tournament and raise money for a great cause. The success of the event creates awareness for the participating schools, offers their students opportunities to compete in a positive event, and raised much needed funds. Thank you to everyone involved, to all the participants, parents and spectators in attendance and to all who volunteered to make 2011 an amazingly successful year for the tournament, raising an incredible $5,332.12.
